My experience: doing makeup for a wedding

A little over a month ago I had an amazing opportunity to be a makeup artist for the day. An incredible girl that I used to work with got engaged last summer and around February/March she came to me and asked if I would do her makeup, as well as all of her brides maids.  I have always had an amazing love for makeup and all of my friends and family will have me do their makeup for events, but never in a million years did I think I would be asked to do something big and special as this. I said yes without a second guess and began preparing looks for the girls.
The bride and her bridesmaids are not girls that wear makeup on an everyday basis, so I respected that and made sure that I brought out their natural beauty, instead of turning them into something that was not them. Two months before the wedding I met the soon-to-be bride at her house to do a makeup run through. We decided on the perfect look for her: soft pinks, VERY subtle contouring, and delicate rose tinted lips. For the girls I did a natural eye that had a hint of shimmer, rose colored blush, and a light/natural pink lipstick.

When the actual day arrived, I showed up to the church where the group was getting ready. I only had an hour to get six girls looking even more gorgeous than what they already were. The bride went first, she was so calm and just ready to get on with the big day. The best part was when every person walked into the room they were in awe with how beautiful she looked, I was even asked multiple times if I did this professionally (I wish)!

Then came the brides maids, which was a lot easier than expected since they all were getting the same look done to them. Given that none of them really wear makeup, they were all so interested in everything I was putting on them. When I looked at the clock I finished with a few seconds to spare, the girls were then whisked away to get pictures done.

The wedding and reception was absolutely perfect! I would also like to say congrats to the amazing couple and their new life together and THANK YOU for letting me be a part of your big day.

My experience...

Pay: gift card to Starbucks (she did a $1000 wedding, so I told her I would do it for free).

Comfort level: 10/10...Every single person was so amazing and kind that came into the room I was in.

Time spent: around 3 hours in total

Would I do it again? YES, YES, YES!

Oklahoma is the place to be!

I am casually (more like frantically) counting down the hours until I get on the airplane to go and see my best friend. We have a pretty unique friendship...we don't live in the same state AND we have only spent an entire ten days with each other in person! Yep, crazy I know. For the last three years we have been soul mates and it is almost time to be reunited with her! When I heard that I was going from 70-80 degree weather to 90-110, I got pretty nervous. I felt like I was dying when it was 85 out the other day! I put on Bleachers new song (I wanna get better) and I sat down to start packing today and I found myself grabbing a lot of skirts and thin tops, because lets be honest, the clothes I wear here everyday just won't cut it!
Tank tops, breezy bottoms, and simple colors were a huge aspect of what I packed.

I made sure that the bottoms would go with multiple tops, so if I changed my mind, I could easily switch them around.

While these are my favorite looks, a few other sundresses and some shorts/t-shirt combos did also make it in! As usual, I went for comfort and simple looks! I don't need anything too crazy when I will be in a place that doesn't call for it.

American Girl

Tomorrow is the 4th of July over here in the land of America and with that comes a sea of clothing in the patriotic colors! I put together two different looks, one casual and the other a more dressy look! I would also like to toss in that I hope everyone has a fun and SAFE 4th of July weekend! I know I will be doing lots of fireworks, grilling, time with friends and family, and drinks!
I kept the first look very casual, since this is most likely what I am going to be wearing tomorrow! A crop top and high waisted shorts are a girls best friend in the summer time (along with a sundress and SPF lotion)! I kept the look "girl next doorish" by wearing some old Converse.

Best part about this outfit? I made the shorts! I have a horrible time finding shorts that fit me the right way, so I always tend to find old mom jeans and make them my own. Why spend over $30 for a good pair when you can make your own for around $5!? I then taped off some sections and painting them red to look like stripes and the other side I did stars (very American, I know). This look will be killer for hanging out all day in the sun and finishing the night off with fireworks.

Now if you are going to a more dressed up event, a sundress and heels might be more ideal. I stuck with a nice length, just above the knee and paired it with strappy heels to give it some extra pizzazz. A small clutch finished it off.

I love this look because you can switch the heels out for sandals and make it a more casual look!

Once again, happy 4th to all of my American readers!!
